Task Performed by the Captaris Unified Messaging System

As e-mail, fax and voice messages are received in the subscriber's mailbox, IMD checks the SMS settings in the subscriber mailbox to determine if new message notification via SMS should occur. Criteria that determine if message notification should occur include time of day and day of week settings, as well as setting priority, sender, subject, content and message type (voice, fax, e-mail). Once the IMD server determines that a message meets the criteria specified for SMS notification, it will use the SMS dedicated modem to dial the SMSXpress Server.

Task Performed by the the SMS Xpress Server

Once modem of SMSXpress Server connects with the modem on the IMD server, then it receives the SMS message or messages from IMD server. It then determines which mobile device will receive such messages and transmit the messages to that device.
